CHAPTER VII: THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY WALLOW (aka Podunk Memorial HY SKUUL)

The skuul of hiah larnin'

You must be wondering by now what kind of nutcase retard High School we all go to and I must admit it is pretty strange. At least to me. It's a big school for as small a town as this is, because we come from all over this part of the county since there are no country schools anymore. Our graduation class will be over 300 if everyone makes it, and that is almost 80 less than the class behind us.

Big building too, has to be...and only 3 years old. It replaced an aging and increasingly decrepit behemoth which got torn down after the new building was finished and good thing cause it was close to an imminent collapse anyway.

We are a motley crew to be sure, our class, but there are some really outstanding brains attached to our group and Tony, Alex, Zach and I were definitely in that mix and in case you are wondering, Alex and I are in the same class because I got bumped up to his class last year. Just what I needed. School with the Bro and I am sure he felt the same way when he found out we were going to be classmates but fortunately we haven't had any classes together yet and with luck we won't. Zach was also one year ahead until I got bumped as I am barely 16 and he is 17.

Alex is headed to college next fall and so is Tony. Both Harvard bound while Zach and I have decided on Stanford. Others in our class are going to Yale and Princeton and MIT and Arizona and OSU and UofM, and I don't think out of the 300 in our class that more than 6 or so are not going to college or at least vocational school and that is pretty average for us. Bright little retards aren't we.

Yep, we are a bright bunch as I said but other than that there really isn't anything truly remarkable about us or our school, not really...although we do have the best Swim team in the state and one of the best in the nation thank you very much. Our football and basketball and hockey teams are also at or near the top and we have all kinds of clubs and groups that are all as well pretty outstanding. I am in Drama Club and Band and Orchestra and Vocal Music and Swim Club (don't ask) and Spanish & French Club and community theatre and on and on. Fun though. Oh and of course I almost forgot to mention I am in the Left-handed putzes Club and also the Weird but functional group hug fest. Sigh, they don't get enough recognition I know. But soon I hope. Hahaha.

Our town is fairly run of the mill I suppose as small towns go. We are near two large cities in two different neighboring counties and one fairsized and growing city (partly in our county but mostly in another neighboring one) which helps with the tax base and the cultural diversity. Lots of industry and colleges in this area, and this part of the state is also a hub for banking and insurance, as well as a growing bio and life-sciences center as a part of one of our State Universities. There are probably about 3 1/2 million people in this region of the state and we are growing and there is a lot of BIG and OLD money too which means our arts and education sectors get a LOT of resources to help with public funding and other private funding too. Makes a difference. We also have a huge medical community here with several major large hospitals and a lot of specialists plus three medical school campuses.

I will miss all of it I think, although not for over a year yet and now with Zach here and then both of us being at Stanford too, there will be continuity and I like that. Zach makes everything better by far. God I love that dude.

How did that happen again? LOL.+

"Yah think?"

As I look back now, I remember what I was thinking during this period. Lot of mixed feelings and I guess I sensed rather than knew that the transition from kid to adult was maybe NOT all that easy when you slide into it at a pretty good clip and although I never said anything to Zach or anyone else for that matter, it felt almost like impending doom...or would have if I had a clue what that felt like.

Hahaha.
